Founded in 1988, the Bucheon Civic Chorale has led the choral music scene with its fresh and diverse repertoire. Drawing on its broad musical capabilities, the choir delivers profound interpretations and well-balanced harmonies, establishing itself as one of the leading choirs in Korea.

The Bucheon Civic Chorale has consistently presented timeless choral masterpieces as its core repertoire, including the works such as Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s The Creation, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Mendelssohn’s St. Paul, and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle. Through sincere interpretations and high-quality performances, the choir delivers the genuine emotional resonance of choral music.

The choir has also been invited to perform in a variety of opera productions, including Die Fledermaus, The Magic Flute, A Masked Ball, La Bohème, and L’elisir d’amore, and received high praise for its performances. In collaboration with the Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra, the choir has delivered outstandingly polished performances of works requiring large-scale choral forces, such as Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection” and No. 3, Wagner’s Tannhäuser (Concertante Version), and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 “Choral”.

Furthermore, the choir has continued international musical exchanges through collaborations with renowned choral conductors from around the world, including Yermakova from Russia, William Denning, Joseph Flummerfelt, and Jerry McCoy from the United States, and Martin Beermann from Germany. From 2014 to 2016, its excellence was also recognized on international stages, including invited performances in Bakersfield, U.S.A.

The Bucheon Civic Chorale will continue to lead the Korean choral music scene through diverse programs, engaging closely with its audiences and communicating the choral philosophy of “consideration” to society, and strive to become a municipal choir that contributes to a happier community.
